“Naturalmente Salento” invites all nature and history enthusiasts to a unique excursion of its kind. This adventure will take place in the picturesque landscape of Leuca, exploring the Finibus Terre Path, starting from the mythical Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca. The Excursion Path
The excursion begins with a visit to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca, followed by descending more than 500 stone steps along the historic Via Pietrina. Continuing through the trails of the Otranto-Leuca Natural Park, participants will explore the Canale delle Menghe, admire the Liberty-style villas of Santa Maria di Leuca, including the Palazzo Ramirez and the Villa della Meridiana, and discover the ancient “Bagnarole” along the waterfront. The trek continues towards the “dell’Omo Morto” Aragonese Tower, a symbol of fishermen and pirate legends, and the “Scalo” bay, an incredible marine biodiversity sanctuary.
Points of Interest
Among the highlights of the excursion are the visit to the Porcinara Cave, an ancient place of worship for sailors, and the natural pools of the green bay. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the famous Devil’s Cave through Speleotrekking, admiring the Caves of the Three Doors. The trek continues along the coast, with a stop at the River Cave and then the Giants’ Cave.
Practical Information
The excursion, lasting a full day, will cover a distance of about 12 km with an elevation gain of 120 m. Classified as easy/moderate difficulty, it is suitable for a tourist and hiking audience. Participants will meet at 9:30 at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca, with departure scheduled for 10:00.
